Backflow Freeze Sensors

What’s this Thing on my Valve?

If your outdoor backflow preventer - whether it's a pressure vacuum breaker (PVB) or double check valve - just arrived, you're probably wondering about the sensor attached to the test cock. DON’T REMOVE IT!  A backflow preventer that's frozen and cracked can’t be repaired. This small piece of technology, when connected, will provide you with advance warnings of freezing conditions, letting you prepare your equipment before damage can occur.

The sensor remains off and does not transmit data until you’ve activated and connected it via an add-on Connection Kit (sold separately). The addition of the sensor to your valve does not change its certification, function, or specification.

Reliable Freeze Alerts at your Fingertips.

By purchasing your Connection Kit and activating the sensor on your valve, you’ll receive freeze notifications via your Building or Irrigation Management System (BMS/IMS) keeping you aware and ahead of costly freeze damage.

Why Connect?

Unexpected freezing temperatures in typically temperate zones can cause severe damage to a backflow preventer that hasn’t been properly winterized. When the mercury rises and equipment thaws, a backflow preventer that’s cracked from freezing can leak and cause further damage. With smart and connected freeze detection, you can anticipate icy conditions and prepare accordingly, because nobody likes a busted backflow preventer.

Add Freeze Detection to Any Install

Ready to connect? Your new valve arrives with a connection-capable sensor. This sensor is turned on with the purchase of an add-on Connection Kit. Once you’ve purchased, installed, and activated your Connection Kit, you’ll receive real-time alerts that keep you ahead of freezing and damage. Have an older-model PVB or double check valve? The same Connection Kit also contains a connection-capable sensor that you can attach to your existing equipment. Simply install and activate for freeze alerts.
